I heart Sundays!!!

Monday, January 18, 2010

Growing up and still today in the present, my favourite pastime is going to the flea market, almost every Sunday with my Mom! This was my haul of treasures today:

Antique lamp: the man who sold it to me said it was worth $700 in Paris, in his somewhat eastern European accent. He also told me that he had a matching one that I will buy next week. Haha. I never take home a find in pairs. I’ll adopt one of them, and then in some romantic mind set imagine that one day the two long lost siblings, or lovers, will reunite again. Well not quite but it is kinda neat to stumble upon the same something that you cherish so much and then meet the other person in this small world who has the same admiration for this beautiful treasure.

David Bowie – Pin-ups record: the lady tried to up-sale me with a movie… oh yeah, no thanks.

A beautifully illustrated book on ships throughout history: this man had a very strong Scottish accent and told me the story of his grandfather sailing across the Atlantic in one.

A brass, Baroque easel/stand: one of my favourite regular sellers saw it in my hand and asked if he could “admire that beauty”. Hehe finders keepers :P

Mini brass frame, made in Italy: yupp yet another one for my wall, but I’ll have to find something to put inside, my mom recommends a photo of her! Ha. I don’t need to upset the cohesive composition I’ve worked so hard on collecting!

Inspiring contemporary African found object artist who intricately creates installation art cloth from recycled bottle caps and copper wire!

Of the more than 200 billion pounds of plastic the world produces each year, about 10 percent ends up in the ocean. Annually, this amount is three times the weight of fish that is caught from the oceans. On average each human will have tossed 326 pounds of plastic into the garbage in just one year!

Please recycle!
